swimming pool, squash court or boxing area. In some cases, additional fees
are charged for the use of these facilities. Personal Training:Most health
clubs employ personal trainers, to which members have access to for
training/fitness/nutrition/health advice and knowledge. Personal Trainers

Planet Fitness is an American chain of fitness centers. Each gym features a
wide array of exercise equipment and personal trainers to assist members. It
has a policy of being a "Judgement Free Zone," meaning that it caters to the
common person or fitness novice. Memberships:Planet Fitness gyms offer a
wide variety of cardiovascular machines and selectorized equipment (with
weight stacks). The franchise is geared towards attracting the average
person wanting to get in better shape, general fitness and not towards
body-builders or power lifters. Rules:The restriction of dumbbell weights to
a maximum of 80 pounds The banning of chalk, often used for heavy lifts such
as deadlifts. The banning of grunting, swearing and psyching-up-rituals. The
banning of excessive noise from bar drops etc. e.g. Olympic lifts. An alarm
(referred to as the "lunk alarm") is set off when individuals drop weights
or "grunt" when lifting. No cell phone use on the gym floor.
No Jeans, Do rags or skullcaps. Litigation:The chain came under controversy
because of a New York Times article describing the public cancellation of
one patron's membership (for "grunting") at their Wappingers Falls, NY
location, an event which resulted in the club calling police, and a lawsuit
for defamation on the part of the ex-member.A health club, also called
fitness studio, exercise center or fitness center, is a place which houses
exercise equipment for the purpose of physical exercise. There exist
specific health clubs that specialize in catering for female exercisers and
do not allow any male patrons on the premises. These type of health clubs
are often termed ladies-only health clubs. In order to cater for these types
of exercisers, many unisex health clubs offer a ladies-only workout area or
room, inside which no male patrons are allowed. Health clubs offer a
collective and often entertaining and informal form of working out and/or
bodybuilding beyond the structure of the classic gym.
Facilities & Services: Main Workout Area: Free-weights area at a health
clubMost health clubs have a main workout area, which primarily consists of
free weights like dumbbells and barbells and exercise machines. This area
often includes mirrors so that exercisers can check and maintain correct
posture during their workout. Cardio Area/Theatre: Cardio theatre including
treadmills, stationary bikes and tv displaysA cardio theatre or cardio area
includes many types of cardiovascular training-related equipment is located.
This equipment usually consists of rowing machines, stationary exercise
bikes, elliptical trainers and treadmills. These areas often include a
number of audio-visual displays (either integrated into the equipment, or
placed on walls around the area itself) in order to keep exercisers
entertained during long cardio workout sessions. Group Exercise Classes:
Spin-cycle group exercise classMost newer health clubs offer group exercise
classes that are run throughout the week by qualified fitness instructors.
Many types of group exercise classes exist, but generally these include
classes based on aerobics, cycling (spin cycle), boxing, high intensity,
yoga, pilates and muscle training. Health clubs with swimming pools often
offer aqua aerobics classes.
